If you have been keeping up on the brief you know that Jane Barr Horstman & Associates is focused on relationships. Relationships with our community, our clients and ourselves. That’s why it is easy to concur with the following quote from Tina Hovsepian,
“As one of my mentors has always expressed to me,
behind every business there are people,
and people function in society via relationships.
Therefore, successful business is built on good relationships.”
JBH&A has grown over the last thirty years by connecting, collaborating and cultivating. Back in 1994 I needed a team member who I could count on to advance these traits. Talk about relationships! I asked my sister, Patty to join JBH&A because I wanted someone who excelled at all the above, as well as logistics, to be at my side. She had recently had her third child and wanted more flexibility with her hours. If I am anything, I am tuned in to the value of flexibility.
Patty joined forces and quickly surpassed me with her knowledge of every venue in the five county area. She has a quiet, yet systematic way of sizing up a situation and determining what needs to happen and how. Her job is to lead the staff and support our clients. She schedules and attends board meetings, plans events, and handles the budget, marketing, sponsorship, and membership drives.
Although our style of managing associates is similar, her style of promoting JBH&A is different than mine. Me: all mingle, mix and mesh. Patty: focusing on fulfilling the requirements of our clients in a way that releases spontaneous word of mouth recommendations. Past clients are consistently endorsing Patty and JBH&A.
Having Patty as a sister is wonderful, having her as COO at JBH&A is brilliant.
How does someone build up endurance, keep the pace, and cross the finish line?
Well the fact that Patty also is a long distance runner probably comes in handy.
And with her favorite, Bruce Springsteen playing in the background, she stays motivated and enthusiastic.

“Developing empathy, intuition, strong relational skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence are thus critical leadership qualities for individuals to possess in exercising clear leadership vision and maximizing their influence with direct reports, colleagues, customers or other stakeholders.” -Rick Koonce

It’s what I do!
Good relationships, whether it is with family or high ranking public officials, requires self-love, trust, honesty and clear communication. At JBH&A we work to embrace and expand these qualities and we think it shows.
Have a Magical Day,
Jane
