Can you believe it? Jane Barr Horstman (originally Pino) launched September 1987… that’s 33 years ago. YaY! I am filled with gratitude for the many people whom have made JBH&A so successful, looking forward to many more prosperous years and ready to celebrate. But first I would like to:
- acknowledge a woman who has been an exceptional mentor, Judee von Seldeneck
- introduce the newest JBH&A Associate, Rick Blackburn
- and highlight one of my personal assistants, Sheila Randa.
With all the ups and downs, Judee has been a constant for 21 years of the JBH&A 33. Funny thing, she doesn’t think of herself as a mentor, just a “sassy little ole girl from the South”. But she has always been willing to take my calls, all of them. She never hesitates to offer advice and she connects me with the people and organizations that I need to be connected to. She cares.
Judee is a great example of generosity, persistence and compassion.
She was, and will continue to be
a great mentor to me.
She has taught me that
you are never too old
to have a mentor.

People in the know say that the 33rd year in a marriage is a milestone, a year of wisdom, philosophy and reflection. I have no problem applying that to JBH&A. With that wisdom and reflection it’s a no brainer to show some gratitude

How did I get so lucky to meet so many talented, hardworking and generous peeps? I am my own kind of cheerleader!
33 is an important religious number;
it’s the numerical equivalent of AMEN, i.e., 1+13+5+14=33;
it’s the age of Christ and also the number of miracles that he performed and
it’s also the numerical representation of the star of David.
“Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living — if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor.” —Denzel Washington
In brief:
Take any and all opportunities to be a positive influence, cheer someone on and show them the way.
